Jane Rossi is a senior lecturer and coordinator for the Advanced Diploma of Oral Health (Dental Hygiene) delivered at the Centre for Dental Studies, TAFE SA North Institute, Gilles Plains. Additional to Jane’s Dental Hygiene qualification, she has a Degree in Adult and Vocational Education, a Diploma in Management and a Diploma in Training and Assessment. In 2010 she was awarded the TAFE SA Fricker Gold Medal for excellence in education and training.
Jane has worked in the dental industry for many years and during this time she has been an active member of the industry, including holding the position of President in the State and National Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia Inc. and she has represented dental hygiene practice and education on many industry professional committees and through these roles – produced dental hygiene curriculum and oral health competency units, represented dental hygiene training on two ADC Accreditation teams and several professional industry reference groups.
As a dental hygiene practitioner, clinical tutor and lecturer Jane’s interest has focused on professionalism, health promotion, communication and behavioural management towards positive outcomes in dental training and applied dental hygiene practice.
Jane will be presenting ‘Motivation towards Behaviour Change in Dental Health’ and hopes to stimulate your thinking and reflection about how we communicate with dental patients. Are we successful or not? What are we doing wrong and how can we ‘entice’ that damned horse drink water!
- The importance of understanding and interpreting the patient’s identified and expressed wants and needs and how these may conflict with the oral health practitioner’s wants and needs;
- Motivational communication techniques to initiate and support behaviour change towards identified dental and health needs;
- Continued support and encouragement through maintenance and review
